Planned Construction

Planned Construction Irsching

In 2006 construction was started on two new power plant blocks, Irsching 4 and 5. The plants use natural gas as the fuel source for the gas and power plants which produce energy at a high level of efficiency. Block 4 will house a combined cycle power plant that will generate power at an efficiency level of over 60 percent - currently the highest possible level worldwide. The construction will be carried out in two phases. During phase I the new gas turbine SGT5 8000 H from Siemens will undergo extensive testing until 2009. The engineers from Siemens will inspect the performance of the new turbines, checking over 3000 test points and making these ready for the start of production. Phase II will begin in 2009 when a heat-recovery steam boiler and a steam turbine are added to the combined cycle power plant. In 2011 the plant will be put into operation by E.ON Kraftwerke.

Block 5 will be completed in 2009 and begins operating as the Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Irsching (GKI). In addition to E.ON Kraftwerke, the N-ERGIE Nürnberg, the Mainova, Frankfurt, and the HEAG Südhessische Energie AG are part of the GKI. The plant will operate at a level of efficiency of over 58 percent.
