On the subject of flue gas

Environmentally safe natural gas is burned in the Irsching power plant. No dust is produced and only a comparatively small amount of carbon dioxide. Sulfur dioxide is found only in very small quantities when the natural gas is burned. A very complex technology is employed to make sure that the prescribed limits on emissions are maintained before the flue gas is released into the environment. All emission data is measured and submitted to the local authorities at regular intervals.

Cooling system

Block 3 in Irsching is cooled using fresh water from the River Danube. The amount and temperature of the cooling water is monitored and the data is submitted to the appropriate authorities at regular intervals. If the natural temperature of the water is too warm during the summer then the plant can also be operated in closed circuit cooling mode via a cellular type cooling tower. The activation of this cellular type cooling tower, however, has never been required for the plant.
